# Susan Butcher's Iditarod '83
One of the first boxes I found had a couple of early games from the Yoyodyne collection.
This one caught my eye, I wasn't familiar with [Susan Butcher](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Butcher) but found out that my relative had produced this game after her 1982 2nd place finish in the famous thousand-mile Alaskan dog race.
Susan would go on to become the second woman to ever win the Iditarod and eventually win four times. Presumably by then she was entertaining offers from much bigger industry names than Yoyodyne. Had this made it to market in '83, perhaps they would have developed a long-term business partnership and Yoyodyne could have ridden her coattails to the top of the dog-sledding video game world.
The game never saw the light of day, but it does appear to be complete and playable.

**Controls:** If you're playing in the browser, 'Z' will start the game and also "mush". The arrow keys control the sled.
**Don't Miss:** Be sure to play to the ending screen to see an incredibly recreation of the Alaska State Flag.
**Overall:** Collision detection is flaky and sometimes an unfair course is generated. The various creatures you encounter along the way are interesting, including the elusive Lady Yeti and the mysterious fan that restores your lost dogs. Wish they had more to do.
**Rating**: Like Susan's finish in the 1985 Iditarod, famously [ruined by a crazed moose](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Butcher), this game does not place.

# ampm Presents: TOOMGIS in The Rise of TOOMGIS
In an era when it wasn't uncommon to see [Domino's Noid on the NES](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yo!_Noid), or the original [Tapper slinging Budweiser](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tapper_(video_game)), Yoyodyne figured they'd get in on the commercial game craze too. Of course, few companies felt safe in the hands of an unproven firm. That didn't stop the team from building several prototypes to pitch.
I found a gem under a stack of prototype copies of *Super Lehman Bros.*, *Exxon Valdez Eco Adventure*, and *[Rax](https://laughingsquid.com/rax-mr-delicious-commercial/) Stax* (apparently a roast-beef themed puzzle game). But one stands out above the rest:
**ampm Presents: TOOMGIS in The Rise of TOOMGIS**
{{< pico8 toomgis >}}
Among what I've found so far, it stands out as "definitely playable."
In what could have been a prototype to [Katamari Damacy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katamari_Damacy) but was definitely created decades earlier, we have the titular TOOMGIS, the garbage-pile mascot of the ampm chain, rolling through three thrilling levels growing ever-larger.
**Controls:** You guide TOOMGIS to collect junk food and avoid stinky healthy food. He can jump (X on your keyboard) or repel items with his electric guitar (Y on the keyboard). Right arrow increases speed, as does picking up food.
**Don't Miss:** Something special in the third level, and some definitely-unlicensed cameos on the win/lose screens.
P.S. If you aren't familiar with TOOMGIS, here he is in his modern form:
